Is this the right drive for you?

Plain-language guide — based only on what we actually supply.

NVR recording poolDrops into any 3.5-inch SATA bay — from single-bay shop NVRs to 8-bay rack recorders. Surveillance series like SkyHawk and Purple carry firmware tuned for many cameras writing at once.
Brand-new or used?Brand-new for front-line recording pools that must run for years; used (tested) stretches the budget for lab setups, spare bays and short-retention projects. Every used drive ships with its health report — you see the power-on hours before you pay.
Free capacity planningRecordable days = channels × bitrate × schedule. Send us your camera count and streams — we'll calculate the storage for you, free, before you buy a single drive.
Not the right pick if you need…
  • Portable or USB-powered backup — these are internal 3.5-inch drives
  • A tiny two-camera kit where recording stays on the camera's microSD — a Red Card MT covers that for less
  • A single copy of critical data on a used drive — for sole-copy archives choose brand-new, or add redundancy

Why a surveillance-rated drive for a video recorder?

An NVR writes every channel around the clock — a duty cycle far beyond what desktop drives are rated for. Seagate's SkyHawk and WD's Purple lines exist exactly for this: firmware and workload ratings built around continuous multi-stream video writes. For storage servers and archive pools we also supply enterprise-class models from both brands. Whichever you pick, the drive is matched to the job — not whatever happens to be lying around.

STORAGE SIZING

How many days will it record?

Surveillance Hard Drive FAQ — Seagate & WD 1–16 TB

What is the difference between a surveillance hard drive and a regular desktop drive?
Seagate SkyHawk and WD Purple are surveillance-series drives engineered for 7×24 continuous NVR recording — the disk writes video around the clock, not the short bursts a desktop drive is designed for. We supply these plus enterprise-class models from both brands, all in the standard 3.5-inch SATA format NVRs use.
How many days of footage will an 8 TB drive hold?
As a rough guide, 16 cameras streaming at 4 Mbps fill 8 TB in about 11–12 days. Fewer cameras or lower bitrates stretch that — 8 cameras at 4 Mbps roughly doubles it to 22–24 days. Send us your channel count and bitrate and we will size the right capacity for your retention target.
What capacities are available?
Nine capacities from 1 TB to 16 TB, all 3.5-inch SATA. The range covers Seagate SkyHawk and WD Purple surveillance series plus enterprise-class drives from both brands, so you can match each NVR's bay count and retention requirement in a single order.
Do you sell new or used drives?
Both. New drives come factory-sealed. Used drives are power-on tested before shipping and each ships with a health report, so you know the condition of every unit before it goes into a customer's NVR. Specify new, used or a mix when requesting your quotation.
Will these drives fit my NVR?
They are standard 3.5-inch SATA drives — the format NVR hard-drive bays take. Check the maximum capacity per bay your recorder supports, then choose from the 1–16 TB range. Send us your NVR model and channel count and we will confirm a suitable capacity before you order.
How do you ship export orders?
For small and mid-size orders we deliver directly to your designated freight forwarder's warehouse in China, on EXW or FOB Guangzhou terms. From hand-over onward the international leg runs under your forwarder's control, so the shipment follows your own consolidation plan and routing.
