How far does the laser IR reach at night?

The vari-focal laser illuminator reaches up to 500 m (1640 ft), adjusting in proportion to the optical zoom so the beam matches your field of view. Wavelength is 850 nm with auto or manual control, and the sensor sees 0.001 lux in color, 0 lux with IR.

At what distance can it detect and recognize a person?

With the 33x lens (4.5–148.5 mm), DORI figures at full telephoto are: detect 2187.9 m, observe 875.2 m, recognize 437.6 m and identify 218.8 m. That pairs the 500 m laser with enough optical reach for long fence lines and open compounds.

Why 2MP instead of 4MP or 8MP for this job?

This model trades pixel count for speed and sensitivity: the main and sub streams both run 1080p at up to 60 fps, which keeps fast-moving vehicles sharp, and the sensor works at 0.001 lux. Ultra 265 compression holds the bit rate between 128 Kbps and 16 Mbps.

Can it keep recording if the connection to the NVR fails?

Yes. It takes a MicroSD card up to 512 GB for edge recording, and ANR support lets footage captured during an outage be filled back to the recorder afterwards. NAS (NFS) network storage is also supported, and two-way audio works for gate intercom duty.

Does it survive desert heat and heavy rain?

Per the product data it is IP66 rated and works from -40 to 70 °C, so Sahel heat and coastal storms are within spec. Heatwave reduction cuts shimmer over hot ground at long zoom, and digital defog, HLC and BLC handle haze and glare.
