Design Notes & Honest Limits

Read this before you order:
  • Thermal early warning complements but does not replace the plant's certified fire-alarm and F&G shutdown systems — those remain mandatory and separate; our platform receives and displays their events alongside the camera evidence.
  • Ex certification is jurisdiction-specific — confirm whether your inspector accepts ATEX, IECEx or a national scheme before ordering; 316L housing alone is corrosion protection, not an Ex rating.
  • Thermal accuracy depends on distance, emissivity and lens — measurement points are engineered per target from your equipment list; a range spec is not a promise of lab-grade reading at every pixel.
  • Conveyor analytics need cameras positioned along the gallery with adequate lighting — retrofit lighting in coal galleries is a real line item; plan it with the camera positions, not after.
  • The security network should be segmented from plant control systems (DCS/SCADA) — coordination with the plant's OT team on network design and cybersecurity policy is a project gate, schedule it early.

FAQ

Which plant equipment should get thermal monitoring first?
Both source documents converge on the same priority list: transformers and switchgear (electrical fires start here), battery systems (thermal runaway), oil pipelines and pumps (leak-then-ignite), and the boiler area. If the budget forces phasing, instrument the main transformer bank and switchgear rooms first — they combine the highest failure cost with the clearest thermal signature, so the early-warning value per camera is highest there.
How does conveyor-belt detection work?
Cameras along the coal gallery run video analytics tuned to four events: belt deviation (the belt drifting off its rollers), belt break, material blockage at transfer points, and people climbing onto the conveyor. Each fires an automatic alarm with video to the control room, so operators stop the line in seconds instead of discovering the pile-up on the next walk-through. It is monitoring plus early warning — the mechanical belt-protection switches stay in place as the hard safety layer.
Does this replace the plant's fire and F&G systems?
No — plainly. Certified fire alarms, gas detection and F&G shutdown logic are mandated, safety-instrumented systems and stay exactly as your codes require. What this platform adds: hours of thermal early warning before smoke exists, video eyes on every F&G alarm point within seconds, and one command view where security and safety events land together. The correct integration is one-way event feeds into the platform — never control authority over the safety systems.
What size system do real power plants run?
The reference projects cited in the source material — China Energy's Huizhou thermal plant, Beijing's Guohua gas-fired plant and State Grid's Jingzhou plant — each run 300–400 HD channels plus access control and vehicle management, with 90-day video retention. That is a realistic benchmark for a mid-size thermal plant: your channel count scales with perimeter length, conveyor length and equipment count, and the 90-day retention figure is what sizes the storage line in the BOQ.
Can it watch worker safety without slowing work?
That is the point of doing it with cameras: PPE checks (hard hat, workwear, seatbelt), off-post detection and unauthorized-entry alarms run continuously in the background — nobody stops for an inspection. Violations produce an alarm plus an evidence clip for the safety officer; patterns (which crew, which zone, which shift) emerge from the statistics.
