How far does the IPC-B124 see at night?

Smart IR illuminates up to 30 m (98 ft) at 850 nm — invisible to the eye, so the scene stays dark while the camera records in black and white at 0 Lux. Color holds down to 0.02 Lux (F2.1, AGC on), and the IR-cut filter switches automatically between day and night.

What does 4MP give me over a 2MP camera in practice?

Reach. DORI figures for this 4MP unit: with the 2.8 mm lens, detection at 63.0 m and identification at 6.3 m; with the 4.0 mm lens, detection at 90.0 m and identification at 9.0 m. The main stream delivers 2560x1440 at up to 20 fps, so faces and plates survive digital zoom better.

Which lens should I order, 2.8 mm or 4.0 mm?

The 2.8 mm covers 97.0 degrees horizontally — one camera watches a whole yard, shopfront or gate at close range. The 4.0 mm narrows to 79.0 degrees but pushes DORI detection from 63.0 m to 90.0 m, which suits perimeter fences, alleys and parking rows where reach beats width.

Is it outdoor-rated and how do I power it?

Yes — IP67 housing against dust and rain, with a 3-axis bracket (pan 0–360, tilt 0–90, rotate 0–360 degrees) for wall or pole mounting. It is powered over PoE, so one Ethernet cable from a PoE switch delivers both power and video, which simplifies multi-camera surveillance installs.

What detection features does it include?

Motion detection, ultra motion detection, audio detection through the built-in mic, and a tampering alarm that flags a covered or repositioned camera. Video runs Ultra 265, H.265 or H.264 with U-code, dual streams, 128–6144 Kbps bitrate, plus 4 privacy masks and 8 ROI areas. Two-way audio is not available.
