The ZTE Wantong S5860-S series is a family of 1U Layer-3 full-gigabit routing switches for enterprise networks. It sits between the gigabit access layer and the 10G aggregation layer: each unit offers 24 or 48 gigabit access ports (RJ45, Combo or SFP) plus 10GE SFP+ uplinks, and the four modular models take one expansion card for 2×40GE QSFP+, 2×40GE miniSAS stacking, 8×10GE SFP+, 8×10GE RJ45 or 8×GE SFP. Routing covers static, RIP, OSPF, IS-IS and BGP with IPv6 versions, MPLS VPN and MCE. Every model has dual hot-pluggable AC power supplies with 1+1 redundancy, and up to 160G VSC clustering joins several units into one logical switch. All specifications below are quoted from the manufacturer's datasheets — where a field was not published, we leave it out rather than guess.

Is this the right series for you?
Plain-language guide — based only on what these switches actually do.
- PoE power for cameras or APs — the S5860-S has no PoE; use the ZTE Wantong S5160-HE or S5150 access series below it
- 10G aggregation with 4×10GE SFP+ on every model and up to 2.56/25.6 Tbps — the ZTE Wantong S5860-E series; for 10G/25G/100G aggregation and data centres, the S6850-X series
- A chassis-based network core — the ZTE Wantong S7850 modular core series covers that
Worried about the source? Order under your own company name.
For corporate buyers: we support submitting the purchase order to the manufacturer under your company's real name — your company appears on the official order, so the origin of the goods can be verified directly with the factory. Just provide your company name and pay by corporate bank transfer.
Using your own freight forwarder? No problem.
For small and mid-size orders, we deliver directly to your designated forwarder's warehouse in China — EXW or FOB, your choice, each quoted separately. From hand-over onward, international shipping and destination-side arrangements are handled by your forwarder — the way you already work.

Who uses it, where it goes and how to plan the routed gigabit layer
Written for the ZTE Wantong S5860-S series from its own specifications: 7 models with 24 or 48 GE ports, 4 or 12 10GE fibre ports, one expansion slot on 4 models (up to 2×40GE QSFP+), dual hot-pluggable AC power on all models, no PoE.
Who it is for
- Enterprise and campus network teams — One routed switch per building: OSPF or IS-IS toward the core, 4K VLANs per building, 802.1x/MAC/Portal authentication for users, and dual power so a failed supply does not take the building offline.
- Systems integrators on CCTV and building projects — The aggregation point above PoE access switches: 24–48 GE or GE SFP downlinks, 10GE SFP+ toward the NVR or server room, and PIM/IGMP multicast for video walls and multiple viewing stations.
- ISPs and enterprise WAN operators — BGP4/BGP4+, MPLS VPN and MCE let one switch keep several customers or departments in separate VPN instances, with QinQ, ERPS (G.8032) rings, Ethernet OAM and BFD for fast failure detection.
- Data-centre and server-room operators — Gigabit server access with MC-LAG or VSC so servers can dual-home to two switches, sFlow for traffic visibility, and 10GE or 40GE uplinks to the data-centre core.
Where and how to install
- 19-inch rack, enough depth — All seven models are 43.6×442×440 mm (1U, 19-inch). At 440 mm deep they need a full-depth rack or a deep wall cabinet; leave room behind for the two pluggable power supplies and their cords. Weight is under 6.5–8 kg depending on model, so use rack rails or a shelf, not only the front ears.
- Two power feeds — Every model has dual hot-pluggable AC supplies (100–240 V, 1+1). Feed them from two different circuits or from mains plus UPS so either source can fail. Maximum draw is only 55–110 W per unit, so a small UPS covers the switch itself; the PoE load sits on the access switches below.
- Cooling and temperature — Rated for -5°C to +45°C and 10%–90% humidity, up to 5000 m altitude, with forced-air cooling. Keep the air inlet and outlet clear and do not stack it directly on other hot equipment in a closed cabinet without ventilation.
- Fibre uplinks and downlinks — 10GE SFP+ ports take 10G optics toward the core; the 36CX-S ports are dual-rate 10GE/GE SFP, and the 60SM-S has 48 GE SFP ports for fibre runs to access cabinets. 40GE needs the 2×40GE QSFP+ card on a QM/SM model. Use the same fibre type and wavelength at both ends.
- Management network — Each unit has a dedicated GE RJ45 out-of-band management port plus RJ45 and mini USB console ports. Connect the management port to a separate management network, use SSH and SNMP v3, and keep a console cable in the cabinet for first setup and recovery.
S5860-S series planning: which of the 7 models
All seven are 1U Layer-3 gigabit routing switches with the same routing, multicast and security feature set, dual pluggable AC power and no PoE; they differ in access port type, number of 10GE ports, whether there is an expansion slot, and forwarding capacity. Max 10GE ports counts the fixed ports plus an 8×10GE card where a slot exists.

- Pick the S5860-36CX-S to aggregate up to 12 access switches on 10G (or 1G) fibre without buying a card: its 12×10GE/GE SFP ports are fixed.
- Pick the S5860-60SM-S when up to 48 cabinets or buildings each arrive on a GE fibre: 48×GE SFP plus 4×10GE SFP+ toward the core, with a slot for 40GE later.
- Pick the S5860-28X-S or 52X-S for routed copper access where 4×10GE uplinks are enough; they are the lowest-power models (55 W and 74 W max).
— = not listed / not applicable. Values are from the page's specification tables; switching capacity shows the first of the two published figures (672 Gbps / 6.72 Tbps, 758 Gbps / 7.58 Tbps). The S5860-S has no PoE, so camera counts do not apply; size PoE on the access switches below it.
