Overview

The S802GIGFI/GFID takes the familiar 8-port FE PoE layout and adds a Gigabit SFP slot alongside the 2 Gigabit RJ45 uplinks, so the same switch works whether the equipment room is down the hall or across the parking lot. Run copper when it's close, drop in a fiber module when the distance or interference calls for it -- no redesign, no swapping switches mid-project. The 8 PoE ports still deliver up to 30W each under IEEE 802.3af/at, and 250m Extend mode covers the outlier camera on the copper side. Choose the 96W S802GIGFI for typical loads or the 120W S802GIGFI, which adds a watchdog auto-reset, for PTZ or IR-illuminated cameras.

Is This the Right Fit?

Six real deployment scenarios matched to this model's actual datasheet specifications.

Small Elementary SchoolsClassroom-block cameras on copper, admin building linked back over fiber where the copper run would be too long.
Construction SitesTemporary site office with 8 cameras on the fence and gate, fiber run back to the contractor's trailer across the yard.
FarmsBarn and gate cameras on copper near the house, processing shed at the far end of the property linked by fiber.
Multi-Story GuesthousesGround-floor lobby and entrance on copper, cameras on the top floor linked back to the reception NVR over fiber.
Gas Station ChainsPole-mounted forecourt cameras run copper to the canopy switch, fiber uplink carries the feed back to the office.
Small Clinic CampusesMain building cameras on copper, a detached outbuilding (pharmacy store or waiting annex) linked back over fiber.
Not a good fit if:
  • Not a managed switch -- no VLAN segmentation, spanning-tree, or web management interface. Choose a managed model if the project needs VLANs or loop-prevention protocols.
  • No ring-network redundancy protocol -- built for star, tree, and bus topologies, not self-healing ring recovery.
  • Commercial -10°C to +70°C rated in a desktop/wall-mount metal case without 19-inch rack ears -- not for extreme industrial wide-temperature sites or standard 19-inch rack rows.
